Mr. Ali Sultan Al-Misferi, Deputy Head of the Qatari Hajj Mission, confirmed that the Qatari pilgrims, totaling 4400, have performed the major pillars of Hajj, which include standing at Arafat, stoning the Jamrah Al-Aqaba, and performing the Tawaf Al-Ifadah. They are in good health and safety, and they continue to spend the days of Tashreeq in the Mina area, performing the stoning rituals, under the continuous supervision and follow-up of the Qatari Hajj Mission. Qatar has been ranked the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa, according to the 17th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2023. The ranking also placed Qatar 21st in the world, recording a jump of two spots this year. The index ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness and is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). It measures the state of peace across three domains: the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and the degree of Militarisation. “Qatar remains the most peaceful country in the region, a position it has held since 2008. It is the only country in the region to be ranked in the top 25 most peaceful countries globally,” GPI stated. Last year, the Global Peace Index ranked Qatar as the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and out of the 163 countries, Qatar ranked the 23rd most peaceful country in the world. “Qatar improved in overall peacefulness in 2023, driven by improvements in political instability, external conflicts fought and UN peacekeeping funding. The restoration of diplomatic relations in 2021 with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt helped improve the internal political situation in Qatar. Relations have remained stable throughout 2022, resulting in a full-year improvement to political stability,” the GPI statement added. In the MENA region, Kuwait placed second in the regional ranking and 35th globally, while Oman, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were in the top five, while Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia made up the top ten. Yemen was the least peaceful country in the MENA region. The index places Europe as the most peaceful region in the world -- home to seven of the ten most peaceful countries. The other three most peaceful countries are in the Asia Pacific region. The MENA region remained the world’s least peaceful region. While the region recorded the most significant improvement in peace, it is home to four of the ten least peaceful countries. Iceland maintained its position atop the index as the most peaceful country in the world, while Denmark displaced Ireland to the number two spot. New Zealand moved up two spots to fourth, Austria dropped to fifth, and Singapore moved up four places to sixth. Portugal, Slovenia, Japan and Switzerland completed the global top ten. In the past year, 84 countries improved, while 79 countries recorded a deterioration in peacefulness. GPI results noted that over the last 15 years, the world has become less peaceful, with the average country score deteriorating by five percent.

The General Authority of Customs has urged travelers to fill out the customs declaration form upon entering or leaving the country, in accordance with the provisions of Qatar's Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Law. Travelers complete the "Customs Declaration Form" upon entering or leaving the country, in the event that they possess cash, precious jewelry or negotiable financial instruments for the bearer whose value is or exceeds fifty thousand Qatari riyals. The form is filled in at the customs declaration office at all air, sea or land travel outlets. The implementation of this system comes in application of the provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Law No. 20 of 2019 and Cabinet Resolution No. 41 of 2019 to issue its executive regulations. Declaration system: A declaration submitted by a natural or legal person who enters or leaves the state's territories and possesses negotiable currencies or financial instruments for the bearer, precious metals or precious stones equal to or more than (50,000) Qatari riyals or their equivalent in foreign currencies. He must fill in the Declaration Form, and any other additional information required by the customs officer must also be provided. Items to be declared are: - Currency: Qatari currencies or other foreign currencies. Negotiable currencies or financial instruments for the bearer are the instruments in the form of a document for its bearer, such as traveler's checks and negotiable instruments including checks and promissory notes, orders for payment of all kinds, and incomplete instruments, including checks, promissory notes, and signed payment orders. Precious metals such as: - gold, silver, platinum ... and other precious metals. Precious stones like: - Diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, pearls ... and others False Declaration: Providing incorrect information about the value of the currency, the negotiable instruments for the bearer, or metals or gemstones that are being transported, or providing incorrect relevant information required in the declaration or by the customs authorities, and this includes failure to submit the declaration as required Penalties: Refraining from submitting the declaration, providing false information, or refusing to provide additional information to the customs authorities with regards to the source of the currency, the negotiable financial instruments of the bearer, precious metals, or precious stones are subject to penalties that may reach imprisonment for a period not exceeding three years or fines not less than 100,000 one hundred thousand Qatari riyals and not more than 500,000 five hundred thousand Qatari riyals, or twice the value of the transferred funds, whichever is more, in addition to confiscating such funds.

The start date of the first edition of the Kayak Fishing Tournament will be postponed to June 23 and 24 due to bad weather, announced the Old Doha Port's official social media handle. The Kayak Fishing Tournament was scheduled for Friday, but it was then decided to postpone it and extend the registration period to June 22, in order to ensure the safety of the participants in light of strong wind forecasts. The Old Doha Port will organize a kayaking competition in cooperation with the Doha Marine Sports Club. The event will be held at the Al Bandar area of the Old Doha Port as a starting point and the fishing zone will be the port basin, opposite to waterfront of the Al Mina area. Contestants will be using special one-seat fishing kayaks and any of the traditional fishing equipment and tools, such as rods, fishing lines or hooks accepted by the tournament jury.
