  • FIFA President confirms 22 national teams will participate in FIFA Arab Cup 2021 in Qatar

    FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that 22 national teams from the Arab region have signed up to participate in the FIFA Arab Cup, which will be staged from 1 to 18 December 2021. Speaking during a visit to Lusail Stadium, which will host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Final, the FIFA President stated that he expected the regional tournament in 2021 to unite millions of football fans from across the Middle East and Arab world. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “We are delighted that all 22 teams from across the Arab world have agreed to take part in the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, which will be held in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadiums, and we are looking forward to seeing the region’s best teams battle it out to see which nation will become champion. Through football, this tournament will unite over 450 million people from across the region, and we are confident that the FIFA Arab Cup will help to build excitement across the region as we edge ever nearer to hosting the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world in 2022.” The tournament will be delivered by FIFA, the Qatar Football Association, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC. Seen as a vital opportunity to test operations and facilities ahead of Qatar 2022, the tournament will take place in the same timeslot as the FIFA World Cup. The finals of both the FIFA Arab Cup and FIFA World Cup will take place exactly one year apart – each on 18 December, Qatar National Day, which is a public holiday.

  • QNTC Holds Workshop with Hospitality Sector on Best Practices for Preventing the Spread of viruses

    QNTC held an awareness workshop in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in hospitality establishments throughout Qatar. The workshop was attended by senior representatives from across the hospitality sector. The session was led by Dr. Salam Sharrab from MoPH who explained the core measures hospitality employees should take to protect themselves and their guests, the most important of which is washing hands thoroughly with any type of soap. He also stated that any staff member or guest exhibiting symptoms of the virus should be quarantined as a precautionary measure, and that MoPH can be reached any time by calling 16000. The workshop addressed the importance of using alcohol-based antiseptics with 70% concentration to clean toilets, surfaces and public places like gyms, restaurants, lobbies and guest rooms. Several of the hotel managers that took part in the workshop stated that they have already taken a number of precautionary steps such as asking staff to limit their interactions outside the workplace, checking employees for fever on a daily basis before they enter the hotel, using sanitizers in accordance with MoPH standards, and sterilizing all tables, chairs and gym equipment after every use. Some hotels are offering their guests sanitizer upon arrival, and taking additional steps to ensure to the cleanliness of facilities like spas or pools. QNTC has launched a task force that has been assigned to work around the clock in coordination with the MoPH and other concerned entities to make sure that a steady flow of information and directives is communicated to all hospitality establishments and attractions in Qatar.

  • 238 New Cases Confirmed

    The Ministry of Public Health announced in a press conference today that it recorded 238 new confirmed cases of coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) in the State of Qatar for expatriates from contacts of the three cases that were announced to be infected with the virus last Sunday who reside in one residential complex. The ministry explained that the new cases that were registered were those who were subject to quarantine as a precautionary measure since the discovery of the injury of the three arrivals, which prevented them from contacting other members of society, bringing the number of confirmed cases of Corona infection in the country to 262 cases so far. The Ministry of Public Health stated that the number of people infected with the virus is likely to increase among contacts of previously announced patients, who are subject to quarantine ... calling on community members to be reassured that all declared cases enjoy a very good health condition and receive medical care at the Center for Transitional Diseases. The Ministry of Health urges all parties and individuals to follow preventive measures to ensure their safety and that of their community, and refer to the website of the Ministry for all the latest information and developments about the virus (Covid 19) available in several languages, or call the toll-free number (16000).

  • Register two additional cases infected with coronavirus (Kofi-19) in the State of Qatar

    The Ministry of Public Health announced that medical examinations revealed that two additional cases of coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) have been infected in the State of Qatar belonging to Qatari citizens among the citizens whom the state evacuated on a private plane from the Islamic Republic of Iran on February 27, and those who have undergone Quarantine upon arrival, bringing the number of confirmed cases of HIV infection in the country to three cases so far. The injured have been admitted to the TCDC under complete isolation and are in stable condition, and the Ministry of Public Health confirms that the injured have not had contact with community members since their arrival, and the outbreak indicators in the State of Qatar are still very low. The Ministry of Public Health has also taken all precautionary measures to reduce the outbreak of the Corona virus, by subjecting all travelers coming from areas where the virus applies to quarantine upon arrival in the country, and the Ministry continues to monitor those who have been subjected to quarantine to ensure that no symptoms appear on them.

    The Ministry of Public Health announced the registration of the first confirmed case of coronavirus - 2019 (Covid-19) in the country belonging to a 36-year-old Qatari citizen who had recently returned from the Islamic Republic of Iran among the citizens whom the state evacuated on a private plane from the Republic Islamic Iran and those who were subjected to quarantine upon their arrival on February 27, and the patient has been admitted to the Transitional Diseases Center under complete isolation and is in stable condition. This matter was expected to happen due to the spread of the virus in many countries of the world and countries in the region and due to the continuous increase in the number of cases that have been reported in these countries. The Ministry of Public Health has begun to examine all persons closely related to the patient and implement appropriate quarantine measures, and there is currently no evidence of the spread of the virus in the country, and efforts are currently focused on screening incoming travelers in all outlets of the country. The Ministry of Public Health continues to take all necessary measures to limit the spread of the virus, and calls on all members of society to exercise caution and apply a set of simple preventive measures to protect against infection including continuous hand washing or the use of hand sanitizers, and to avoid contact with people who have symptoms, and to keep An appropriate distance from other people, using clothing sleeves when sneezing or coughing or using tissue paper and then disposing them appropriately in a closed container. The Ministry of Public Health advises all people who were present in any of the countries that have been reported For cases of infection with the virus during the past fourteen days, and they showed symptoms of respiratory infection, namely coughing and a high temperature, by calling the Ministry's hotline on (16000). The Ministry of Public Health works closely with all of its partners and with the World Health Organization to ensure the application of the latest guidelines and measures to protect public health, and the Ministry of Public Health invites the generous public to visit its website regularly to view the latest information and obtain health advice and guidance, as the Ministry updates the information regularly. The Ministry calls on citizens and residents to fully cooperate with all preventive measures that it applies, and the Ministry of Public Health renews the warning against circulating rumors or obtaining information in this regard from unreliable sources.

  • VCUarts Qatar to Host Lecture on Artificial Intelligence and Art

    Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) in Education City, a Qatar Foundation partner university, will be hosting a lecture by Dr. James She from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), titled, “AI and Smartphone Technologies for New Artwork Creation, Interaction and Definition.” The lecture will take place at 12:30pm on Tuesday, February 18 at the Atrium at VCUarts Qatar. All are welcome to attend. Emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and smartphone technologies are making disruptive changes and new possibilities for people in business, manufacturing, travel, education and even art. In this talk, examples of AI and smartphone technologies will be selected to show how recent developments in those technologies could facilitate the creation of, and interaction with, artworks. Dr. James She will also share the story of how his artworks are evolving due to the related technologies invented by himself and others. Through these artworks, Dr. James She, a new media artist and university professor who is interested in merging traditional and new media techniques, will explore trends in artwork creation, new forms of artwork, and novel interaction modalities. He will discuss a few key moments in art history, and rethink definitions of art, craftsmanship, ownership and other related matters which may affect how we evaluate artwork produced by AI and smartphone technologies. At the same time, the Gallery at VCUarts Qatar is hosting an exhibition that combines augmented reality, art, and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach from an album by acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma, to give visitors a unique and immersive audio-visual gallery experience. The exhibition, titled, “Into the Light” will run until February 22. The exhibition opened on January 15 with a well-attended panel discussion titled, “Art + Technology: How do artists use it to shape their craft and the way their audiences experience it?” Amir Berbić, the Dean of VCUarts Qatar, explained that the lectures and exhibition highlight how the University is increasingly combining art, design, and AI and VR technologies, and is bringing them into the classroom and to new audiences with lectures and exhibitions by renowned experts. “Artificial intelligence and virtual reality are increasingly being used in our programs, such as Art Foundation, Interior Design, and Graphic Design, and they have enormous benefits for our graduating students who are entering industries in Qatar and around the world where these skills are much in demand,” he said. Dr. James She, who is the founding director of HKUST-NIE Social Media Lab, is currently a Visiting Professor at the College of Science and Engineering at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar, and launched the first AI and Art event in Qatar in 2019. His recent interests explore the use of smartphone and AI technologies which have been developed by him and others to create visual or interactive artworks. In the last six years, he has been exhibiting his interactive artworks in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Brisbane, etc. His scientific research includes AI for Art, Design and Media, Data Science in Social Media and Multimedia, and Green IoT technologies for future social and interactive media.
