  • Meryal Waterpark Launches “Back to School. Back to Splash.” Campaign with QAR 227 Student Offer

Back to School. Back to Splash Meryal Waterpark has announced the launch of its “Back to School. Back to Splash.” campaign, running from 1 to 30 September 2026, as students across Qatar return to classrooms, early mornings, and new routines. The campaign is built around a simple message: while the school routine may be back, the excitement does not have to end. Meryal Waterpark is positioning itself as a weekend reward for children after a busy school week, offering families a place where students can swap school bags for swimsuits, homework for adventure, and routine for moments of fun. To celebrate the beginning of the 2026–2027 academic year and wish students across Qatar a successful year ahead, Meryal Waterpark is introducing a special campaign ticket price of QAR 227, available throughout September. The symbolic offer reflects the spirit of the new academic year while giving students and families another reason to make Meryal part of their weekend plans. More than a seasonal promotion, “Back to School. Back to Splash.” is designed to strengthen Meryal’s connection with the community and become part of the rhythm of family life throughout the school year. Through school engagement, a dedicated student offer, and interactive experiences at the waterpark, Meryal aims to build closer relationships with students, educators, and families across Qatar. As part of the campaign, Meryal will also visit schools, where students will be introduced to the story of Meryal, water-safety messages, and the Golden Grade Draw, creating moments of surprise and excitement during the school day while extending the waterpark experience beyond the destination itself. Rosette Fares, Cluster Director of Marketing & Communications, said: “For children, going back to school is a big moment. Summer freedom suddenly becomes early mornings, classrooms, homework and structured days. We wanted to look at this transition through their eyes and create something that reminds them that while the holidays may be over, the joy of childhood certainly is not.” She added: “‘Back to School. Back to Splash.’ is about giving children something to look forward to. But it is also about something bigger: bringing Meryal closer to the community and becoming part of the memories families create together. We want weekends at Meryal to be the moment children have been waiting for all week, a chance to splash, laugh, explore and simply be children again.” With the launch of “Back to School. Back to Splash.”, Meryal Waterpark is celebrating more than the start of a new academic year. The campaign highlights the balance between learning and play, routine and adventure, and the family moments created in between. The QAR 227 special ticket price is available from 1 to 30 September 2026. • Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra Celebrates Canada and Mexico Through the 2026 Years of Culture Concert Series

Acclaimed conductors Enrique Arturo Diemecke and Charles Olivieri-Munroe lead two concerts honouring the musical heritage of Qatar’s 2026 Years of Culture partners Doha, Qatar – 6 September 2026: The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will celebrate the musical heritage of Mexico and Canada this season with two special concerts presented as part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, bringing some of each country’s defining orchestral works to audiences in Doha. The Years of Culture concert series will begin with Sounds of Mexico on 18 September, led by acclaimed Mexican conductor Enrique Arturo Diemecke, followed by Sounds of Canada on 7 November, conducted Charles Olivieri-Munroe. Both performances will take place at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). The two concerts reflect a longstanding collaboration between QPO and Years of Culture, using music as a shared language through which audiences can encounter the histories, identities and creative traditions of Qatar’s partner countries. QPO Executive Director Kurt Meister said: “Music allows us to experience another culture in an immediate and emotional way. With Sounds of Mexico and Sounds of Canada, we’re bringing audiences in Qatar music they may not hear very often and giving them a chance to discover the composers and stories behind it. That’s what makes Years of Culture so valuable, it brings people and cultures together in a very natural way.” Sounds of Mexico Presented as part of Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations, Sounds of Mexico invites audiences in Doha to experience the country through its music, while offering Mexican audiences the chance to see their musical heritage celebrated through cultural exchange. The concert also marks the return to Qatar of Enrique Arturo Diemecke, Mexico’s most internationally recognised conductor and a lifelong champion of Latin American repertoire. Diemecke conducted QPO in Doha in September 2025 for A Musical Encounter: Sounds of Qatar and Argentina, before leading more than 70 QPO musicians in the orchestra’s historic debut at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires as part of the Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture. Returning now to lead Qatar’s national orchestra through the music of his own country, the concert presents a journey through some of Mexico’s orchestral voices. The programme features Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2, Carlos Chávez’s Chacona in E Minor, Blas Galindo’s Sones de Mariachi and Silvestre Revueltas’s Redes, Second Suite. Sounds of Canada On 7 November, the series turns to Canada with Sounds of Canada, conducted by Charles Olivieri-Munroe. His own journey, born in the Czech Republic, raised and educated in Canada, and subsequently building an international career, reflects a theme running through the programme itself: the role of migration and cultural exchange in shaping Canadian classical music. The concert will spotlight the music of Oskar Morawetz, the Czech-born composer who became one of Canada's most prominent 20th-century composers after fleeing Europe during WWII. Together, the programme introduces Doha audiences to a Canadian orchestral tradition shaped by the movement of people and ideas across borders. Music as Cultural Exchange The two concerts form part of the wider Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, a year-long programme connecting the three countries through exhibitions, design, film, sport, heritage, education and community exchange. The QPO series adds music to that conversation by pairing internationally recognised conductors with repertoire deeply connected to the countries they represent. Held under the patronage of H.E. Organised under the theme “Manufacture, Build, Innovate”, Project Qatar 2026 reflects the ongoing transformation of Qatar’s construction, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. The exhibition aims to strengthen integration between industry, technology, and smart building solutions, in support of sustainable development and Qatar National Vision 2030. This year’s edition brings together 145 exhibitors, including 120 local companies and 25 international firms, representing construction, building materials, industrial technologies, energy, engineering services, smart city solutions, and sustainable infrastructure. Hayat Bayan, Commercial & Operations Director at IFP Qatar, said the launch of this year’s edition amid ongoing regional developments reflects the resilience of the Qatari economy and its ability to navigate challenges. She added that the participation of 25 international companies demonstrates global confidence in the growth potential of Qatar’s construction market and its expanding role as a regional investment hub. Bayan noted that the exhibition has evolved into a comprehensive professional platform that brings together the public and private sectors, enabling contractors, suppliers, developers, and investors to explore new collaboration opportunities and discover the latest smart building solutions, machinery, products, and advanced technologies. The exhibition features a dedicated B2B Matchmaking Platform, targeted business meetings, the Excellence in Industry & Innovation Awards in collaboration with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), and a Startup Stage supporting entrepreneurs and SMEs. • Qatar Expands National Service Enrollment to New Categories with Benefits up to QR 7,000 Monthly

In a major development for Qatar’s national service system, the Ministry of Defense has issued Minister of State for Defense Affairs Decision No. 5 of 2026, introducing new regulations for the recruitment of individuals who are not covered under Qatar’s National Service Law. The new decision opens recruitment opportunities for residents born in Qatar, children of Qatari mothers, and Qatari citizens who are not required to perform mandatory national service, while also offering monthly financial incentives and potential pathways to permanent residency. Key Highlights of Qatar National Service Recruitment 2026 Residents born in Qatar can now apply for national service under specific conditions. Children of Qatari mothers are eligible to apply. Non-obligated Qatari citizens can volunteer for national service. Monthly allowances of up to QAR 7,000 are available. Eligible recruits may qualify for permanent residency in Qatar after completing service. National reserve service continues until the age of 40. Distinguished recruits may receive priority for employment within the Qatari Armed Forces. Who Can Apply for Qatar National Service in 2026? The decision identifies three categories eligible for recruitment. Category 1: Qatari Citizens Not Required to Perform National Service This category includes: Qatari males and females who are not legally obligated to perform national service. Individuals wishing to volunteer for service. Category 2: Non-Qatari Children of Qatari Mothers This category includes: Male and female applicants whose mother is Qatari but who do not hold Qatari nationality. Category 3: Residents Born in Qatar This category includes: Male and female non-Qatari residents born in Qatar. Applicants must hold valid residency status. Conditions for Qatari Volunteers (Category 1) Applicants must: Submit an application expressing their desire to join national service. Be at least 18 years old. Be medically fit according to the Military Medical Committee of the Ministry of Defense. Have no felony convictions or crimes involving dishonesty or moral turpitude unless rehabilitated. Pass security screening. Pass a personal interview. Conditions for Children of Qatari Mothers and Residents Born in Qatar (Categories 2 & 3) Applicants must: Submit an application expressing their desire to join national service. Be between 18 and 25 years old. Be medically fit according to Ministry of Defense standards. Have no felony convictions or crimes involving dishonesty or moral turpitude unless rehabilitated. Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer or sponsor for sponsorship transfer. Hold a valid Qatar residence permit. Pass a personal interview. Pass a security check. Receive approval from the Minister of State for Defense Affairs or an authorized representative. National Service Duration in Qatar Categories 2 and 3 The total service period cannot exceed five years, including: Military training Field qualification Service within Armed Forces units Category 1 The service period will be determined by the Minister or an authorized representative. Service may also be completed with: Other military agencies Government entities Public institutions in Qatar with ministerial approval. Qatar National Service Monthly Salary and Allowance 2026 One of the most searched aspects of the new decision is the monthly financial reward offered during active service. The allowance becomes payable from the end of the recruit’s first month of active service. The financial benefits for Category 1 volunteers will be determined separately under existing National Service Law provisions. Permanent Residency Opportunity in Qatar A significant feature of the new regulations is the possibility of obtaining Permanent Residency in Qatar. Applicants from Categories 2 and 3 who successfully complete their active service period may be nominated for a Permanent Residence Card, subject to applicable regulations. However, violations of military orders, regulations, or disciplinary requirements may lead to procedures for cancelling permanent residency through the Ministry of Interior. Qatar National Reserve Service Rules After completing active service, recruits from Categories 2 and 3 will be transferred to the National Reserve Service. Reserve service continues until: Age 40 Death Medical unfitness National security requirements Acquisition of Qatari nationality Reserve Call-Up Compensation When called to serve during reserve duty for periods not exceeding 15 days, recruits are entitled to: QAR 3,500 per call-up Employment Opportunities After National Service The decision also creates a pathway for employment within the armed forces. Outstanding recruits may receive: Priority consideration for military jobs Recruitment opportunities within the Qatari Armed Forces Recommendations from the National Service Academy or service units based on workforce requirements. What Happens if a Non-Qatari Recruit Obtains Qatari Citizenship? If a recruit from Categories 2 or 3 acquires Qatari nationality: Their active service under this decision ends. They become subject to the provisions of Qatar’s National Service Law No. 5 of 2018. National reserve obligations will also follow the requirements applicable to Qatari citizens. Qatar National Service 2026: What This Means The new regulations represent one of the most significant expansions of Qatar’s national service framework in recent years. For the first time, residents born in Qatar and children of Qatari mothers have a structured route to serve within the national service system, receive financial incentives, potentially qualify for permanent residency, and compete for future opportunities within the Armed Forces. The decision reflects Qatar’s broader efforts to strengthen national participation, develop skilled personnel, and provide new opportunities for long-term residents who have strong ties to the country.
