- Apple’s new iPhones get faster chips, better cameras and new charging ports
Apple on Tuesday unveiled its next generation of iPhones - a line-up that will boast better cameras, faster processors, a new charging system and a price hike for the fanciest model. The showcase at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California, comes as the company tries to reverse a mild slump that has seen its sales drop from last year in three consecutive quarters. The malaise is a key reason Apple's stock price has dipped by nearly 10% since mid-July, dropping the company's market value below the $3 trillion threshold it reached for the first time earlier this summer. The malaise is a key reason Apple's stock price has dipped by nearly 10% since mid-July, dropping the company's market value below the $3 trillion threshold it reached for the first time earlier this summer. Investors apparently were not impressed with what Apple rolled out Tuesday. The company's shares were down by nearly 2% during afternoon trading. As has been case with Apple and other smartphone makers, the four types of iPhone 15 models aren't making any major leaps in technology. But Apple added enough new bells and whistles to the top-of-the line model - the iPhone 15 Pro Max - to boost its price by $100, or 9%, from last year's version to $1,200. Apple is holding the line on prices for rest of the line-up, with the basic iPhone 15 selling for $800, the iPhone 15 Plus for $900 and the iPhone 15 Pro for $1,000. All the new models will be available in stores September 22, with pre-orders beginning this Friday.
- Qatar Airways Cargo helps return 'Ruben' the world's loneliest lion to natural habitat
After enduring five years of isolation in an abandoned Armenian zoo, Ruben, known as the world's loneliest lion, embarked on a remarkable journey of rehabilitation in Free State, South Africa, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Animals Defenders International (ADI) and Qatar Airways Cargo. Ruben, who was left behind when a private zoo closed down in Armenia, suffered in a tiny concrete cell with no contact with other lions. Ruben's happy ending was at risk when ADI could not find a suitable flight for him out of Armenia. Qatar Airways Cargo orchestrated a 5,200-mile journey for the 15-year-old lion, where he is now rediscovering his voice and confidence as he roams the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. Despite physical challenges from years of captivity, Ruben's resilience and determination shine through, offering hope for his remarkable recovery. Elisabeth Oudkerk, SVP Cargo Sales & Network Planning at Qatar Airways Cargo said: "We are committed to preserving wildlife and endangered species, that is why we launched our WeQare Chapter 2 initiative: 'Rewild the Planet back in 2020. We pledged to return wildlife and endangered species back to their natural habitat, free of charge and we will continue to do so. "When ADI approached us and explained the sad story of Ruben, we immediately knew we had to help them. There are a lot of logistics involved in moving animals like Ruben; from the logistics at the airports involved, the process for loading and unloading the animals from the aircraft, to ensuring the correct cages and wellbeing of the animals are in place. It takes a lot of effort from our team to organise such transport - but it is something we are all collectively very proud to be a part of, knowing we helped give back to our planet." Jan Creamer, President, Animals Defenders International added: "Ruben was really in trouble until Qatar Airways Cargo stepped up. ADI had been funding his care in Armenia since December and when we could find no flights for him we feared he could be stuck there. "Then Qatar Airways Cargo 'WeQare' initiative stepped in, moving a larger aircraft with hold doors big enough for Ruben's crate, into the scheduled passenger route out of Yervan. We are so thankful to Qatar Airways Cargo for all their support in helping get Ruben to South Africa. "Seeing Ruben walk on grass for the first time, hearing the voices of his own kind, with the African sun on his back, brought us all to tears." Qatar Airways Cargo's WeQare sustainability programme consists of a series of focus chapters based on four core pillars: environment, society, economy, and culture and is a conscious endeavour to create a more positive impact on the industry and the world. Chapter 2 - Rewild the Planet encourages the preservation of ecological balance by offering free transport to organisations involved in returning wild animals to their natural habitat.

- DIFI: PARENTING EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE KEY TO CREATING A HAPPY FAMILY
DIFI: PARENTING EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE KEY TO CREATING A HAPPY FAMILY The importance of developing and implementing parenting education programs to create a healthier, more cohesive family framework for future generations has been highlighted by the Doha International Family Institute. The "For a Brighter Future" campaign aims to show how programs that support parents in nurturing children can positively impact and enhance their caregiving techniques and interactions with children. The campaign comes as a result of the evidence gathered by Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) – a member of Qatar Foundation – that highlights how the skills and knowledge required by parents in Qatar can be strengthened through participating in these programs to enhance family bonds and unity. A report conducted by DIFI on parenting programs highlighted that these programs in the Arab region focused on capacity-building, family counseling – especially for at-risk families – protection from domestic violence and illness, parental skills, early childhood treatment, problematic behavior management, and family planning. At a glance, research shows that parental programs fall under four categories: parental (family) support, parent education, parental training, and intervention. In the report conducted by DIFI on parenting programs, most programs in the Arab region fell under the “Education” category at 32%, followed by “parental support” at 27%, “parental training” at 25%, and “intervention” at 17%. Dr. Sharifa Noman Al-Emadi, Executive Director of DIFI, said: “Investing in parenting programs and positive parenting is of great importance, as it contributes to achieving goals that go beyond the well-being of a child; it is the empowerment of future generations. Through this campaign, we encourage both mother and father to attend more parenting education programs to help them navigate through the journey of different stages of a child’s life.” During a related study on ‘Adolescent well-being in Qatar’ in 2020, DIFI reported that adolescents who cultivate strong bonds with their families, participate in organized activities such as sports and recreational pursuits, and maintain healthy lifestyles are less inclined to engage in harmful behaviors compared to their peers. The “For a Brighter Future” campaign offers an opportunity for open dialogue within the Qatari society to emphasize the importance of parenting and parenting programs, and how any challenges faced by Qatari families can be addressed. It also serves as a platform for introducing parenting education programs aimed at enhancing the overall quality of care children receive.
