  • Showcasing Arabic art: 100/100 Best Arabic Posters' highlights regional creativity

In an era dominated by digital art and advertising, the sight of a physical graphic poster, especially an Arabic one, has become increasingly rare. However, at M7 in Msheireb Downtown Doha, visitors have the unique opportunity to explore 100 remarkable pieces of the region’s graphic design culture. The “100/100 Hundred Best Arabic Posters” exhibit is an independent platform dedicated to the celebration of Arabic Graphic Design. It highlights the rich visual art culture of the region, showcasing the evolution of script, imagery, and style by leading Arab graphic designers. The initiative’s vision is to document the contemporary visual culture of the Arab world, aiming to inspire, connect, and educate emerging talents, academics, and professionals. By doing so, it aims to enhance the global visibility and perception of Arabic graphic design. Every two years, the Hundred Best Arabic Posters competition invites an independent jury to select the top 100 posters. Over the past decade, four rounds of this competition have been completed, resulting in 400 winning posters chosen from over 7,400 submissions across 23 countries. This year marks the inaugural presentation of the exhibit in Qatar. The 100 selected posters cover a variety of themes, including movie posters, exhibitions, events, poetry, alphabets, and calligraphy. The jurors for this year’s selection are Nora Aly, Lina Ghaibeh, Nassim Azarzar, Ghalia Elsrakbi, and Ali Almasri. Meanwhile, the Co-Directors of 100/100 are Jochen Braun, Ryan Vincente Lee Grees, and Regina Rammelt. This exhibition is part of the biennial Design Doha event, which commenced in February and will run until August, taking place at various locations throughout Doha. The headline exhibition, “Arab Design Now,” curated by Rana Beiruti, stresses the rich cultural diversity and history of innovation across the Arab world, from Bilad Al Sham to the Gulf and North Africa. It celebrates this diversity while highlighting the shared values of community, co-creation, and storytelling in contemporary design. Authors Bahia Shehab and Haytham Nawar, in their PROSE Award-winning book “A History of Arab Graphic Design,” explaiedn that Arab graphic design emerged in the early 20th century as a response to significant economic, social, and political changes in the Arab world. Although graphic design became a formally recognised genre of visual art in the region only in the 21st century, the field has yet to see extensive academic exploration. The “100/100 Hundred Best Arabic Posters” is open to the public and will run until August 5.

  • Qatar's Inland Sea chosen among the 'Top 100 Beaches in the World'

The Golden Beach Award 2024 recognizes Qatar's Inland Sea as the 89th-best beach globally!! BeachAtlas, a London-based website specializing in global beaches, presented a list of the world's best beaches, showcasing destinations with unparalleled natural beauty, vibrant lifestyles, inclusive atmospheres, strong community ties, and rich cultural heritage. However, this year BeachAtlas has broadened its criteria. Beyond the classic beauty, they ve considered factors like natural diversity, local community value, cultural significance, and DEI (Diversity, Equality, Inclusion), recognising beaches where visitors feel represented and comfortable, regardless of background, identity, and abilities. "This is the first selection ever to expand and encompass diverse criteria ... to shine a light on those beach gems that typically don't make it onto traditional, unidimensional 'best beach' lists," the company said on its website. Using a unique algorithm, BeachAtlas shortlisted 100 beaches based on the new criteria. Travel experts, influencers, photographers, bloggers, and journalists from around the world then voted, adding their personal insights to refine the list and rank the Golden Beach Award 2024 Top 100 Beaches in the World. As per the survey, the Inland Sea (Khor Al Udaid) ranked as the 89th best beach in the world this year. Located in the southeast part of Qatar, the Inland Sea beach is "uniquely nestled between desert dunes and ocean waves, creating a remarkable ecosystem. This spot is not just a beach; it's a fusion of natural wonders and a peek into the past, rich with fossils along its shores." This recognition highlights Khor Al Udaid's breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. On Visit Qatar's website, a traveler described the Inland Sea beach as "one of the most unusual yet attractive destinations imaginable. The pristine sea and ever-changing sands make visits totally memorable." Visitors to the Inland Sea can witness a rare meeting of sand dunes and the sea. According to Visit Qatar, this unique cycle brings in a variety of fish, crustaceans, and turtles. Flamingos, migrating ducks, Arabian Oryx, and gazelles can also be spotted. "The sea recedes in the evening and the beach becomes deserted again, while dunes magically change colour under golden sunsets," it added. Qatar's Inland Sea ranked behind UAE's JBR Beach (8th place) and Saudi Arabia's Umluj Beach (41st), making it the third-best beach in the Middle East and the Arab region. Bora Bora in French Polynesia topped this year's list of best beaches, followed by Boulders in South Africa, Waikiki in the USA, and Copacabana in Brazil. Thailand's Maya Bay, Black Sand Beach in Iceland, Glass Beach in the USA, JBR Beach in the United Arab Emirates, Skeleton Coast in Namibia and Omaha Beach in France claimed the 5th to 10th spots, respectively. Other beaches in Asia that made it to the top 100 list include Thailand's Pattaya Beach (12th), Indonesia's Kelingking Beach (34th), Indias Baga Beach (35th), Japan's Okinawa Beach (36th), Philippines' Hidden Beach in Palawan (37th), South Korea's Haeundae Beach in Busan (55th), Philippines' Nacpan Beach in Palawan (65th), Thailand's Railay Beach West (66th), and Singapore's Siloso Beach in Sentosa Island (91st).

    ·         Six decades after its debut, the all-new, seventh-generation Ford Mustang delivers an exhilarating drive and a muscular look that pays tribute to an iconic heritage ·         Most powerful-ever 5.0-liter Coyote V8 delivers epic sound and performance ·         Cutting-edge technology enhances jet fighter-inspired cockpit Doha, Qatar February 23, 2024 - Sixty years after its debut, the all-new Ford Mustang brings its unique blend of muscular design and exhilarating performance to the Middle East. Now in its seventh generation, the all-new Mustang adds a fresh chapter to an icon, delivering the looks, drive, and roar expected of the world’s best-selling sports car over the past ten years. Bold, Muscular Design The seventh-generation Mustang adds a modern muscular aesthetic to a heritage-inspired exterior. A low, horizontal bow emphasizes width at the front, complemented by an upper grille and rear lights that are heavily influenced by the original first-generation Mustang – as are the sleek roofline, broad sprinting stance, and shortened rear overhang – while the Tri-Bar LED headlamps continue the Mustang’s classic lighting signature. The GT 5.0, GT Premium 5.0, and GT Premium 5.0 convertible all feature an updated front fascia and rear valance, while the top-range Dark Horse boasts unique front grilles with an iconic Pony Badge, an exclusive fascia at the front and back, as well as special upper, lower, and outboard grilles. “The new Mustang is more robust and edgier, leaning into Mustang’s classic brawniness and timelessness,” said Chris Powell, Icons Brand Manager at Ford Middle East. Mustang convertible continues its drop-top legacy offering maximum open-air freedom. A simple, one-touch activation with a single-handle center latch opens and closes the fully lined and insulated fabric roof. The compact roof design and independent rear suspension also contribute toward segment-leading trunk space that can accommodate up to two golf bags. The All-New Mustang comes to the Middle East in 11 standard colors with a 12th exclusive color for the Dark Horse edition – Ember Blue. The Dark Horse edition features Brembo six-piston front brake calipers with larger rotors and a 19” Brembo brake system with performance linings. A Performance-raised rear wing takes pride of place on the GT Premium 5.0 and Dark Horse trims of the All-New Mustang. The Dark Horse edition also includes additional blue accents across the seats, a black-painted roof, unique brake calipers, a Notorious Blue with Grabber Blue logo, and a unique hood graphic. Reimagined, Technology-Powered Interior Behind the muscular exterior silhouette of the seventh-generation Mustang lies the most technologically advanced, driver-centric cockpit of any Mustang to date. The fighter jet-inspired cockpit offers the driver two flowing and curved displays that can be quickly customized to show information the driver wants or needs to see. The available leather-wrapped steering wheel has a chrome bezel, tilt/telescoping steering column, and Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) with selectable effort, cruise, and audio controls. The All-New Mustang’s 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster can be customized to display different animated designs and new drive-mode-dependent visuals. Based on the same Unreal Engine 3D creation tool used in modern video games, when choosing personalized drive mode settings, the car’s current setup is displayed on the center stack as real-time graphical renderings. Settings can be adjusted by simply swiping the graphic to rotate the car virtually in a true gamified style. A large 13.2-inch center-stack touchscreen takes pride of place, offering driver and front passenger easy access to the All-New Mustang’s key controls. The All-New Mustang is also equipped with a suite of advanced driver-assist technologies to maximize safety. Ford CoPilot360 comes standard with BLISÂź (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Dynamic Brake Support), and Rear View Camera, in addition to Cruise Control. Available on the GT 5.0, Convertible, and Dark Horse, the Lane-Keeping System features a Lane-Keeping Assist, Lane-Keeping Alert, and Driver Alert, while Adaptive Cruise Control ensures a seamless journey, even on busy roads. Pony x Performance With its advanced fourth-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, the All-New Mustang delivers more naturally aspirated horsepower than ever, thanks to an innovative dual air intake box and dual-throttle body design, which helps minimize induction loss by enabling higher air flow rates. Drivers can choose between a 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift capability or, for those seeking an uncompromising connection to the eight-cylinder engine, a 6-speed MT82-D4 manual transmission, which includes Dual Mass Flywheel and Twin Disc Clutch. This retains peak torque between manual gear changes, delivering even more precision, thrill, and better refinement. For drivers who prize performance above all else, the Mustang Dark Horse offers drivers the additional option of a unique TREMEC 6-speed manual gearbox. Quicker steering ratios and minimal compliance from steering wheel to tire significantly enhance the car’s cornering dynamics, with increased straight-line power. With Normal, Sport, Slippery, Track, Drag Strip, and Custom drive modes, the All-New Mustang is equipped to provide a drive optimized to a range of surfaces, conditions, and use cases. Steering effort, engine response, and transmission and electronic stability control settings are all adjusted according to the selected mode, and high-fidelity graphics in the digital instrument panel bring the mode to life. “This is the most athletic, confidence-inspiring Mustang to drive yet,” said Powell. “Thanks to driving modes combined with fine-tuned digital engine, suspension, and steering controls, we’re now able to give drivers peak performance everywhere, from their favorite roads to their local track.” The All-New Mustang is available for a test drive in the Ford showroom, potential buyers can experience the unique premium touches, progressive design, and intuitive technologies firsthand.
