Qatar Foundation will open a landmark cultural destination this November: Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, dedicated to the life and work of Maqbool Fida Husain, one of the most influential pioneers of modern art.

Opening to the public on 28 November 2025, the museum will join Education City’s growing network of public cultural spaces, offering an immersive journey through the artistic world of M.F. Husain.

A Living Legacy of Creativity

The museum will celebrate Husain’s vast artistic career through a multimedia experience that combines paintings, tapestry, photography, poetry, and films. Visitors will discover the philosophies, memories, and influences that shaped Husain’s creativity — all presented in bold, innovative formats that engage audiences of all ages.

The building itself mirrors an architectural sketch drawn by Husain, a design he envisioned as an artwork in itself, reflecting his lifelong pursuit of innovation.

Commissioned Works by Her Highness Sheikha Moza

Among the galleries, visitors will find part of a series of more than 35 paintings commissioned by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, inspired by Arab civilization and completed by Husain before his passing.

Another highlight will be Seeroo fi al ardh, Husain’s celebrated final masterpiece located at Education City, which will be integrated as a gallery within the museum through a specially curated show.

Voices from Qatar Foundation

Kholoud M. Al-Ali, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Programming, Qatar Foundation, said:

“Designed as a space for inspiration and creativity, Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum reflects Qatar Foundation’s mission to provide spaces where people can explore, enjoy, and be inspired by art and culture. It will foster discovery, dialogue, and meaningful connections across communities.”

Why It Matters

The museum illustrates Qatar Foundation’s broader mission to create cultural and educational platforms that inspire innovation, strengthen heritage, and encourage cross-cultural understanding. With over 100 public artworks already displayed across Education City, this new addition enriches Qatar’s cultural landscape and solidifies Doha’s reputation as a global hub for art and creativity.
